I can certainly share in most of the experiences you had including walking down freezing Chicago streets. Another that touched me was your husband losing his precious black Florsheim wingtips. I had the exact same shoes. After almost 40 years I still have the same pair!!! Sure I wore them constantly during a 7 year sales job. Other than that they serve for weddings and funerals, heck almost new! Ha.
