Hi Susan,
An interesting conundrum. I’d be willing to bet fifty grand (were I loaded), five dollars in my economic state, that, most people reading books, short stories skim. I ask: does anyone read 100% of what they,re reading. I see no problem with skimming.

Oh I guess we could say skimming can vary from reader to reader. Some skim more than others. I mean I skim Hemingway, King, others. I still get the full gist of the story. I do.

Do I feel at all guilty about skimming? Heck no.

I still give fifty claps if the story is meeting my unique, personal bar of satisfaction. I do a response too, if in my own maybe odd way of evaluating the story it really rings the bell.

Anyway that’s all I wanted to say. I liked your piece and that’s why I did fifty and a response. You motivated me to chime in with my two cents. Yes of course I was already familiar with this ‘read all ‘ conundrum.

You, raised a valid thing. I will raise my little flag and state that I already have enough guilt issues in my daily life, Imagine one small domestic issue after another… I,ll be damned if I,m going to feel any serious shame because I don’t digest every palabra!

Thanks for your well stated post.

Tom
