Your Diet Coke conundrum most understandable. Here in Guatemala we have 3 or 4 diet cokes. You have to know which one to buy! I know how. The one I buy is the one that says no calories, zero sugar and in the small plastic bottles it must have a black cap. If you buy the one with the red cap you are totally screwed. The black cap one delivers the magic to me. Swig half of it down, very cold, so it hurts going down, get off the chair and jump in place about 30 times. The carbonation in this particular coke generates gas and burps that alka seltzer can only dream about. Reflux undergoes immediate and profound relief. Try it!!
Watch out for the damn Diet Coke that proudly proclaims across the can : ‘the swift taste’. The stuff is deadly.

Oh god and when the stuff is ‘agotado’ or suddenly becomes unavailable in Guatemala my withdrawal hell lasts for three solid days. A friend told me the particular magic ingredient comes from the Amazon jungle…
