Interesting piece.
First off I sure hope Tolles Pool is not covered in gold coins…
I too follow the Buddha. As for spiritual leaders who make tons of money there’s not enough space here to list them all. We could pick loaded teachers from pretty much all the religious orders.
Might add here too that Ram Dass though perhaps not swimming in cash certainly lived in a dream setting in the hilltops of Hawaii. Let me follow that quickly with that this fact doesn’t bother me in the least! Zero, zilch, nada!
I always put the disquiet voiced by those opposed to rich spiritual leaders under the microscope. What is it about rich spiritual leaders that’s irks some? Would I prefer that they weren’t loaded? Oh I suppose so if I believed these people should live almost in the dirt existences , a miracle producing spiritual leader seems to fit a stereotype that found its origin god knows where.
Thinking on the matter though who decides who can or can’t accumulate money? Maybe each case deserves analices. How does the loaded teacher spend his her money (mostly men of course which perhaps calls for a whole different kind of investigation.?
Now if the spiritual teacher pavés his her Pool in gold coins well that just might ruin my moment. But if the ST works his her ass off and doesn’t have gold sink fixtures I can’t burn them at the stake…
The oft used term moderation might be useful here.
