I've worked for asshole bosses and for saints. Both come with their respective ways of treating underlings. This is simple fact. Musk is just another fellow human, not more not less unless you are of those who think being a billionaire elevates one in the eyes of God. The danger exists for so many to fall star-crossed when in the presence of huge economic juggernauts like Musk. Big mistake.

Musk on the other hand is the owner, is, in capitals, he can do almost as he damn well pleases and that includes firing, and hiring. If he so chose he could dissolve his business empire today. End it. Put all those people out of work. Its his to do with.

The assistant, though one feels badly for her, how many of us have had rises turned down, forgot the one truism with which one asks for a raise. They might say no! The truism is: are you prepared to walk away if turned down? If not, then better rethink. There's nothing noble in losing a job just because you didn't get a damn raise.

I was in the position for twenty five years with over three hundred employees to hire and fire. Easy? Not really. Depended on the individual. But utterly necessary lest every soul who asks gets the raise and the business drowns.

Sorry. But it is to a certain extent dog eat dog. Its simple reality.
