Thanks for bringing this foto to life. I do recall seeing the picture, probably in LIFE. I remember feeling my heart stir for her. I wondered what insurmountable difficulties she must have dealt with, and eventually give in to.

The picture did capture her beauty, her beautiful calves and shins, classic ankles, nice dress style.

.

Her pain was so sad. I ask today was there nothing that could have been done? We will never know of course but perhaps this could alert all those of us who feel we would never do this. Alert us to keep eyes and ears open to perhaps one day help in preventing such deaths.

In Florence, Italy one early morning, around five A.M., I was fortunate (I hope) to happen upon one other person on the Puente Del Vecchio (SP?). She was straddling the wall and was pushing herself off. I grabbed her, her tears came in a rush. She asked me to let her go.

Alcohol on her breath. Someone much, much later and with much more knowledge about these things told me the fact she was drinking was a hopeful sign. I'll leave that for you to think about. I do sort of get it.

She was too damn young to cash it all in.

I did not let her do so. I hope I did right. I think I did right.

Thanks for stirring these things up. Life I have decided really is worth struggling for. Worth attempting to reach a modicum of tranquility about, Something that may cause us, almost daily to smile about maybe the smallest things.

But just enough to keep us alive, some happiness.

Tom
